General Claims Representative

As a General Claims Representative, you will be responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving a variety of railroad-related claims, including third-party property damage and injury claims. You will work closely with claimants, internal stakeholders, legal counsel, and external partners to gather information, assess liability, and ensure claims are handled professionally, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.

This position can be based in Calgary, AB or the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), ON with offices in Hamilton

Manage a caseload of railroad-related claims from initial notification through resolution

Investigate and evaluate property damage, liability, and third-party damage claims

Collect, review, and analyze information related to incidents, including reports, witness statements, photographs, repair estimates, invoices, and other supporting documentation

Communicate directly with claimants to gather facts, answer questions, and provide updates throughout the claims process

Conduct thorough investigations to determine the circumstances of an incident and identify responsible parties

Assess liability and determine fault based on facts, evidence, applicable regulations, and company policies

Identify information gaps and proactively seek additional details to support claim decisions

Maintain complete, accurate, and organized claim files and documentation

Prepare claim summaries, reports, correspondence, and recommendations

Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Operations, Risk Management, Finance, and Legal

Work closely with both inside and outside legal counsel on complex claims and litigation matters

Evaluate damages and support settlement negotiations and claim resolutions
