Role Overview
The Forward Deployed Engineer works directly with clients to solve technical challenges and implement production-ready solutions.
The role owns the technical relationship with clients, from translating business constraints into technical specifications to coordinating deployments.
Field intelligence from client work is used to influence product development and platform evolution.
Client Engagement
- Coordinate end-to-end technical delivery for specific clients.
- Run technical calls, reviews, and sign-offs with client teams.
- Translate technical constraints into internal requirements and develop feasible implementation strategies with clients.
- Travel to client sites as needed, with less than 20% travel expected.
Technical Implementation
- Lead client-specific adapter implementation in customer environments.
- Make architectural decisions within defined scope and escalate platform-level concerns to Principal Engineers.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, product owners, and technical leads on client-requested feature guidance, prioritization, and validation.
- Work with infrastructure teams on deployments, release validation, multi-tenancy design, and deployment strategy.
Knowledge and Process Development
- Contribute field insights to product development and the platform roadmap.
- Build reusable solutions for common patterns.
- Document best practices and technical learnings for future clients, including SSO integration, infrastructure sizing, API authentication, and CI/CD processes.
Requirements
- Proficiency in general-purpose programming languages and scripting; the current stack includes TypeScript and Go.
- Experience contributing to client-specific adapters through data mapping, API integrations, and tenant configuration.
- Experience debugging cloud-native environments, including relational databases, Kubernetes, Temporal, logs, and traces.
- Ability to translate technical constraints into business requirements and vice versa.
- Strong problem-solving skills and sound escalation judgment.
- Excellent communication skills for technical calls and client interactions.
- Collaborative approach to working with internal teams and external clients.
- Ownership mindset and accountability for client success.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in rapidly changing environments.
- Background in production environment implementation and troubleshooting.
- Client-facing experience is preferred, while candidates with strong technical skills and interest in frontline work are also welcome.
- Consulting, agency, or startup background is advantageous.
