FDE Engineer

  • Infrastructure as Code: Azure resources defined in Terraform/Bicep; reproducible, version controlled, peer reviewed.
  • CI/CD pipeline ownership: GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps pipelines; automated build, test, deploy from code commit to production.
  • Deployment excellence: Zero downtime deployments, rollback capability, production monitoring; safe, confident releases.
  • Security & compliance: Secrets management, network isolation, encryption, audit logging; meet UAE data residency and compliance requirements.
  • Observability & incident response: Alerting, logging, metrics; enable fast diagnosis and resolution of production issues.
  • Strong client facing requirement: Work directly alongside the client on a daily basis, actively engaging in conversations to understand business needs, explain how AI works, identify where AI can add value, and shape what AI solutions can be built.

Infrastructure & Cloud Architecture

  • Design Azure resource architecture: Virtual networks, subnets, security groups; App Services or Kubernetes for compute; Azure SQL or Cosmos for data.
  • Implement IaC (Infrastructure as Code): Terraform or Bicep for all cloud resources; version controlled in Git; peer reviewed before deployment.
  • Design for high availability: Multi region failover (if required), load balancing, database replication; target 99.9% uptime SLA.
  • Implement disaster recovery: Backup/restore procedures, RTO/RPO targets; test quarterly.
  • Cost optimization: Right size compute, storage tiers, auto scaling policies; monthly cost reviews and optimization recommendations.

CI/CD Pipeline Development

  • Design build pipeline: Trigger on code push.
  • Design deployment pipeline: Automated deployment to staging on every merge to main; approval gate for production; coordinated deployment across multiple services.
  • Implement blue green or canary deployments: Minimize downtime, enable rollback if issues detected.
  • Automate approval workflows: Automated approvals for low risk changes; manual approval for schema changes, security config, production only features.

Containerization & Orchestration

  • Build Docker images: Optimized for size, security (minimal base images, no root user, security scanning).
  • Manage image registry: Azure Container Registry; scan images for vulnerabilities before deployment.
  • Orchestrate containers: Kubernetes (AKS) for complex, scalable deployments; or App Service containers for simpler apps.
  • Implement resource limits: CPU/memory requests and limits for containers; ensure fair scheduling and pod eviction prevention.
  • Monitor container health: Liveness probes (restart if unhealthy), readiness probes (remove from load balancer if not ready).

Security & Secrets Management

  • Implement secrets management: Azure Key Vault for database passwords, API keys, certificates; Managed Identities for service to service auth.
  • No hardcoded secrets: Scan code repo for secrets; fail build if detected; educate team on secret handling.
  • Implement RBAC: Role based access control for cloud resources; principle of least privilege.
  • Network security: Firewalls, network policies, private endpoints for databases; VPN for on premises access.
  • Encryption: At rest (Azure Storage encryption).
  • Audit logging: All infrastructure changes logged (CloudTrail, Azure Activity Log); all data access logged; immutable audit trails for compliance.

Deployment & Release Management

  • Coordinate releases: Work with POD Captain and QA to plan deployment windows; communicate to stakeholders.
  • Execute deployments: Orchestrate coordinated rollout (backend data migrations frontend); monitor health; rollback if issues.
  • Implement feature flags: Allow incremental rollout (10% of users 50% 100%); feature toggles for safe experimentation.
  • Manage database migrations: Zero downtime schema changes (expand phase, migrate data, contract phase); rollback procedures.
  • Document runbooks: How to deploy, how to rollback, how to scale, how to debug production issues.

Observability & Monitoring

  • Implement logging: Structured logs (JSON) to centralized log store (ELK, Azure Application Insights); queryable by trace ID for request tracing.
  • Implement metrics: Application metrics (request rate, error rate, latency, business metrics); infrastructure metrics (CPU, memory, disk, network).
  • Implement distributed tracing: Track requests across services (correlation IDs, OpenTelemetry); identify bottlenecks.
  • Create dashboards: Real time visibility into system health, performance, business metrics; alert on anomalies.
  • Implement alerting: Critical alerts (error rate >1%, P99 latency >5s, database down) trigger pager; minor alerts logged for trend analysis.

Incident Response & Troubleshooting

  • Establish on call rotation: FDE engineer available for production incidents.
