Expert Backend Engineer

Purpose

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Design complex backend architectures, services, APIs, and integration patterns across multiple squads.
• Act as the senior technical authority for critical backend systems and lead their implementation.
• Define and enforce backend engineering standards, patterns, and development practices.
• Ensure solutions meet scalability, security, resilience, performance, and availability requirements.
• Design for high availability and resilience in payment-critical, always-on services.
• Review complex code, technical designs, and implementation approaches.
• Resolve critical production incidents and drive root-cause remediation.
• Optimize application performance, database interactions, and service communication.
• Align designs with enterprise architecture, security, and regulatory requirements.
• Identify architectural risks, technical debt, and improvement opportunities.
• Mentor backend engineers and raise the technical bar across the chapter.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, recommend adoption, and contribute to architectural decisions and technology roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 5 years of backend engineering experience, including senior or lead technical ownership.
• Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.
• Strong background in security, performance engineering, and production operations at scale.
• Payments, banking, or regulated financial services experience.
• Professional certificates.
