Role Overview

The Director, Cloud Engineering owns the strategy, operation, security, governance, and financial stewardship of the cloud platform and shared engineering services.

The role partners with Engineering, Product, UX, Security, IT, Compliance, Finance, and Go-to-Market teams.

The leader oversees cloud infrastructure, platform operations, observability, identity services, CI/CD pipelines, compliance initiatives, and cloud cost management across the SaaS portfolio.

Cloud Platform Strategy and Operations

  • Define and execute the cloud platform strategy for SaaS products and long-term business objectives.
  • Establish reliability, observability, incident management, disaster recovery, and platform governance practices.
  • Partner with engineering leaders to deliver highly available and scalable cloud services.
  • Lead initiatives that improve platform consistency, operational maturity, and engineering effectiveness.
  • Champion platform architecture standards and participate in technical governance and architectural reviews.

Security, Compliance, and FinOps

  • Lead cloud platform readiness for FedRAMP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Implement secure-by-default platforms, policies, and operational controls with Security and Compliance teams.
  • Drive vulnerability management, security remediation, and operational security initiatives.
  • Own cloud cost governance, forecasting, budgeting, optimization, and financial management practices.
  • Align technology investments with business priorities and improve cost visibility through automation and tooling.

AI, Vendors, and Engineering Leadership

  • Drive responsible adoption and governance of AI platforms, services, tooling, and related infrastructure spend.
  • Lead evaluation, selection, negotiation, and lifecycle management of cloud providers, technology platforms, and engineering tools.
  • Manage major cloud and software licensing agreements and strategic vendor relationships.
  • Build and lead high-performing cloud and platform engineering teams.
  • Improve developer experience through reduced friction, enhanced tooling, and self-service capabilities.

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or related technical disciplines.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering managers and/or technical teams.
  • Deep expertise with public cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
  • Experience building and maintaining private cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience operating large-scale SaaS platforms in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, compliance, governance, and risk management.
  • Experience with cloud financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization.
  • Proven cross-functional strategic leadership, executive communication, and vendor management experience.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance frameworks.
  • Experience building platform engineering or developer experience organizations.
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning infrastructure, governance, and operational practices.
  • Experience leading identity and access management initiatives.
  • Knowledge of observability, cloud operations, and reliability engineering practices.
  • Experience in high-growth SaaS organizations.

Compensation

  • The compensation range is CAD 200,000 to CAD 250,000 per year for the primary posted location.
  • Actual compensation may vary by location and job-related qualifications, experience, knowledge, and skills.

  • Magnet Forensics uses a hybrid-flexible approach, with occasional in-person office attendance for employees within a comfortable travel distance.
  • Office attendance typically ranges from weekly to monthly depending on department and team needs.
