Brief Role Description
This position is a career level 20P and is located in San Jose, CA with a role classification of Hybrid.
The Development Engineer Sr- Software will be responsible planning and management projects related to environment modeling, motion planning, behavioral prediction algorithms and software for vehicle control and its interaction with its environment. Testing of these concepts in a simulation environment, its integration into the ADAS projects and the final validation on a customer function level will be part of the responsibilities.
Possible Tasks within this Role
Product/ Function Development (40%)
Project coordination for concept vehicle hardware and software development
Create, discuss and align concepts for complex software components
Develop and cross‐compile C/C++ and CUDA code
Build and maintain CI/CD workflows for cross‐compiled builds targeting ARM64/Linux
Spread knowledge and create guidelines for other engineers and provide architecture
Building/Integrating software and algorithms for path planning, behavioral planning and vehicle control
Collaborating with cross-functional teams within the ADAS development departments in Germany and in the US
Perform root‐cause analysis and debugging of platform‐specific issues
Project Management (20%)
Performing other duties as necessary for completion of projects and achievement of goals.
Building a traceability
Definition/negotiation/monitoring of requirements and change requests
Tracking of development progress and key performance indicators
Technical and commercial alignment with local suppliers/development partners
Creation of specific requirements for the market
Reporting of project status to the Management
Defining project approval scope
Building traceability within the development process
Definition of required scope of local test cases (HW and SW testing, scope: platform)
Resource planning for approval activities
Monitoring of test execution to ensure approval on schedule
Generate approval recommendation
Evaluate Start-ups and other cooperation opportunities with local partners to achieve project goals
Error Management (20%)
Tracking of issues
Leading ticket reviews
Analyses of issues with different tooling’s (CANoe, ADTF,...)
Verification and Validation (20%)
Testing algorithms in simulation, in vehicle in controlled environment, and ultimately in in vehicle in the field.
Benchmarking and validating navigation systems for final deployment
Creation of test setups for validation and acceptance tests
Monitoring of test execution to ensure on time approval
Qualification requirements
7 - 10 years of work experience in the field of Environmental Modeling and Path Planning for ADAS and Advanced Parking systems
Education
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Robotics or equivalent with focus on Computer Vision, Motion/Path Planning or related field
Desired
Master’s or PhD in Mechatronics, Robotics or equivalent with focus on Computer Vision, Motion/Path Planning or related field
Skills
- Good knowledge of of environmental modeling and a variety of planning techniques
- Skilled in motion planning and control theory (e.g., model predictive control, vehicle dynamic modeling)
- Good programming and algorithm design knowledge
- Good programming skills in C/C++ and Python
- Experience with software engineering tools like Git, CMake, CI, gdb,etc.
- Excellent planning and organization skills
- Good agile project management know-how
- Effective analytical and conceptual skills to derive adequate solutions for technical problems
- Ability to solve complex problems
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent communication skills
- Open minded and empathic work style
- Excellent team player
- Comfortable with ambiguity and tackling new problems
- Deep understanding of the vehicle network (communication, flex devices, mapping from previous to new networks,..)

- Required
- Working knowledge of ROS and/or other message networking middleware
- Good knowledge of SLAM
- Experience with real-time sensor fusion
- Good knowledge of ADTF framework and working knowledge of ADTF Tools
- Working knowledge of Vector tools like CANalyzer CANape etc
- Good knowledge of automotive bus systems (FlexRay, CAN).
- Firsthand experience with CI/CD of software
- Good understanding of Functional Safety concepts for ADAS systems
- Desired
- Good German language skills
- Good knowledge of Artificial Neural Networks and related libraries like Tensorflow and Keras
- Strong English language and German language skills (written and spoken)

Compensation Data
For California and Fully remote jobs only:
Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, industry-based experience, skills, training, credentials, and other qualifications. In the state of California, the salary range is $159,000.00 - $222,600.00.
