Key Responsibilities

Perform SQL performance analysis and tuning , including query optimization, EXPLAIN analysis, access path evaluation, join strategy assessment, optimizer hints (OPTHINTs), and data normalization best practices.
Monitor and optimize application performance using tools such as BMC MainView for DB2 , BMC Apptune , CA Detector , or equivalent IBM performance monitoring solutions.
Develop and maintain automation and operational utilities using REXX programming .
Conduct performance and capacity management activities by tuning DB2 and system resources, leveraging monitoring, reporting, and diagnostic tools.
Provide application development support , including SQL coding guidance, performance recommendations, and DB2 issue resolution.
Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation (Level 1/Level 2) covering weekdays, weekends, and critical production incidents.
Support DB2 for z/OS Distributed Data Facility (DDF) environments, including distributed workload management, stored procedure performance tuning, and DDF-related subsystem parameter optimization.
Analyze and resolve DB2 locking and concurrency issues , including lock escalations, lock contention, deadlocks, and timeout situations across page, row, table, tablespace, and system levels.
Manage and troubleshoot DB2 logging environments , including active and archive logs; utilize log analysis and scanning tools to investigate performance and recovery issues.
Administer and optimize DB2 utilities , including REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, LOAD, RECOVER, REBUILD INDEX, and related maintenance processes.

Required Qualifications

8–15 years of experience as an IBM DB2 for z/OS Database Administrator , with strong expertise in database administration, performance tuning, and application support.
In-depth knowledge of DB2 database objects and structures, including: Databases Storage Groups Tablespaces Tables Indexes Views and Aliases Native Stored Procedures Triggers User Defined Functions (UDFs)
