The Controls & Instrumentation Engineer designs, develops, installs, manages, and maintains equipment that monitors and controls machinery and process systems.

The engineer works with operations, maintenance, purchasing, design, and corporate engineering colleagues.
Required experience and education
- A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field plus 2 or more years of manufacturing or processing experience is required.
- An associate degree plus 5 or more years of related skills or experience is an alternative education and experience path.
- Experience with ladder logic, text-based programming, and function block concepts is required.
- The role requires knowledge of electrical and electronic components, troubleshooting, programming, and distributed control systems.
- The role requires effective written and verbal communication with employees and vendors at various levels.
- Candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced production and manufacturing environment and remain mobile as opportunities arise.
Required competencies and preferred skills
- Required competencies include developing new control systems, maintaining and modifying existing systems, and troubleshooting controls and programming.
- Experience with SCADA, SQL Server, and FactoryTalk is preferred.
- Union experience or exposure and experience with Fortune 500-type companies are preferred.
- Prior supervising or management experience leading and developing hourly employees is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, install, manage, and maintain manufacturing control equipment and process systems.
- Ensure systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently, and safely.
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, purchasing, design, and engineering teams to improve equipment efficiency.
- Support changes to process parameters and equipment and increase automation and controls.
- Troubleshoot controls and programming issues.
Schedule and travel
- This is a first-shift role that may require off-shift and weekend hours as needed.
- The position requires a minimum of 10% travel.
Compensation
- The salary range is $81,200 to $121,800 per year.
