Role Purpose
Lead planning, coordination, management, and execution of commissioning for a hyperscale data center project.
Cover MEP, ELV, BMS, and IT infrastructure systems from design review through Integrated Systems Testing, client acceptance, and operational handover.
Deliver a fully operational and resilient facility in compliance with project specifications, client standards, industry practices, and commissioning procedures.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10-15 years of commissioning experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mission-critical facilities or hyperscale data centers.
- Experience with hyperscale clients such as Microsoft, Google, AWS, Meta, or Oracle is highly desirable.
- Experience managing large commissioning teams on projects exceeding 20MW IT Load is preferred.
Preferred Certifications
- Preferred certifications and training include CxA, CCP, Uptime Institute ATD, PMP, NFPA, electrical safety, and NETA.
Technical Skills
- Data center commissioning, Integrated Systems Testing, reliability and redundancy validation, and MEP systems testing.
- BMS, EPMS, DCIM platforms, construction and QA/QC processes, risk assessment, commissioning software, Microsoft Office, and project planning tools.
- Leadership, stakeholder management, client-facing communication, technical decision-making, presentation, and resource management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the commissioning strategy, plan, and turnover roadmap.
- Lead commissioning across mechanical, electrical, ELV, controls, and mission-critical infrastructure systems.
- Review designs and control philosophies for commissionability, reliability, maintainability, and compliance.
- Verify construction completion, QA/QC records, ITPs, pre-functional checklists, and punch-list clearance.
- Oversee testing of HVAC, chilled water, fire protection, MV/LV systems, UPS, generators, batteries, and fuel systems.
- Direct testing of BMS, EPMS, DCIM, SCADA, fire alarm, security, access control, CCTV, and network infrastructure.
- Lead FPT and IST, including failure scenarios, utility outages, and redundancy validation.
- Manage client, consultant, vendor, and operations interfaces, witness testing, approvals, and readiness reviews.
- Hand over commissioning records, test scripts, reports, O&M manuals, as-builts, training records, and final reports.
- Enforce safety, quality, PTW/LOTO, and applicable industry and client requirements.
Success Metrics
Zero major commissioning incidents and successful completion of Level 1-5 commissioning.
Achievement of IST and client acceptance milestones and on-time commissioning completion.
Smooth operational handover, compliance with client standards, and minimal post-handover defects.
