Commercial Analyst

Overview

Pricing & Market Analysis

• Build and maintain pricing and freight forward curves, including mark-to-market and spread analysis
• Monitor freight rates, market movements, location differentials, and time spreads to identify commercial opportunities
• Track freight market developments, settlement prices, and paper versus physical economics
• Prepare daily and weekly market intelligence reports and analytical insights for management and trading teams
• Support commercial decision-making through market trend analysis and performance tracking

Pnl Review & Commercial Coordination

• Allocate trades across business units and legal entities while ensuring accurate reconciliation between systems
• Monitor operational costs including logistics, demurrage, and quality/quantity adjustments to ensure accurate P&L reporting
• Maintain strong commercial controls by updating operational and trading activities within internal systems
• Support coordination between commercial, operations, and finance teams for smooth execution of transactions

Analytics, Modeling & Operations

• Develop analytical tools including pricing models, scenario analysis, dashboards, position trackers, and break-even calculators
• Utilize Excel, Python, and AI-assisted tools for automation, reporting, and commercial analysis
• Integrate internal datasets to generate actionable insights and management reports
• Provide operational support including documentation handling, invoice coordination, and issue resolution related to cargo movements and physical operations
• Act as a backup support resource for operational and commercial activities when required

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Supply Chain, or another quantitative discipline
• 3 years of experience in c
• ommodity trading, freight/shipping, commercial analytics, logistics, mining, banking commodity desks,
• or related sectors
• Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to interpret market data and commercial performance
• Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with Python, data analytics tools, or AI-enabled reporting tools
• Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced commercial environment
• Strong multitasking, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within a lean, high-performing team structure
• Willingness to travel internationally as part of the role
• Additional language skills such as French, Arabic, Russian, or Mandarin would be an advantage
