Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage neurological conditions such as epilepsy, cerebral palsy, migraines, developmental delays, muscular dystrophy, neurogenetic disorders, and neurobehavioral conditions like ADHD or autism spectrum disorder
- Conduct physical and neurological examinations to assess muscle strength, coordination, reflexes, and other neurological functions
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including electroencephalograms (EEGs), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT) scans, and lumbar punctures
- Develop individualized treatment plans, which may involve medications, therapeutic interventions, or referrals to physical, occupational, or speech therapists
- Monitor patient progress over time, adjusting treatments as children grow and their conditions evolve
- Counsel and support families, providing education and resources to help manage chronic or complex neurological conditions
Requirements
- Medical degree and specialization in pediatric neurology
- Experience in diagnosing and managing neurological conditions in children
- Ability to conduct physical and neurological examinations
- Proficiency in ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (EEG, MRI, CT, lumbar puncture)
- Strong communication and counseling skills for interacting with families
