Role Overview

The South Campus is undergoing a STEM-focused academic and pedagogical transformation supported by new science laboratories and learning infrastructure.

The school is seeking an experienced Upper Grades Chemistry Teacher to deliver rigorous instruction and strengthen practical science education.

The position reports to the Head of Secondary and works with the STEM Director and Academic Director.

Teaching and Academic Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality IGCSE and A Level Chemistry instruction aligned with the UK Curriculum and examination board requirements.
  • Embed hands-on laboratory learning and use the school’s advanced laboratory facilities effectively.
  • Design lessons that develop scientific inquiry, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and experimental skills.
  • Prepare students for practical components of external examinations.
  • Monitor attainment using assessment data, identify learning gaps, and implement targeted interventions.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement and academic progress.

Laboratory Safety and Collaboration

  • Maintain recognized international laboratory health and safety standards and conduct risk assessments before practical activities.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, use, and disposal of chemicals and laboratory materials.
  • Coordinate laboratory schedules, equipment, and resources with the STEM Director.
  • Participate in departmental planning, curriculum development, moderation, academic review, and wider STEM initiatives.
  • Contribute to enrichment activities, science competitions, and interdisciplinary learning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
  • Valid and recognized teaching qualification or credential.
  • PGCE, QTS, or an equivalent postgraduate teaching qualification is preferred.
  • Current laboratory safety certification, such as CLEAPSS or an internationally recognized equivalent, is required.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety, risk assessment, chemical handling, storage, and disposal procedures.

Experience and Competencies

  • At least three years of relevant Upper Grades or Secondary Chemistry teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching the UK Curriculum, particularly IGCSE and/or A Level Chemistry.
  • Experience delivering hands-on laboratory-based Chemistry instruction.
  • Experience supporting strong student attainment and external examination outcomes.
  • Experience using assessment data for progress monitoring and targeted academic intervention.
  • Strong classroom management, student engagement, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in a rigorous UK Curriculum school in the UK, South Africa, or MENA is preferred.
