Backend Engineer, Core APIs

Role Overview

Accountabilities

• Design, develop, and optimize scalable backend systems for real-time data processing and high-performance web services.
• Build and improve APIs, microservices, and backend infrastructure with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Develop primarily with Go and/or Node.js across services and technologies.
• Integrate backend components with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Investigate complex features through root-cause analysis, hypotheses, experimentation, and data-driven evaluation.
• Perform performance tuning, debugging, testing, and reliability improvements.
• Own work from investigation through implementation, deployment, and iteration.
• Participate in a shared on-call rotation with advance scheduling.
• Mentor junior developers and contribute to open-source or cross-functional initiatives.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of professional backend software development experience building production-grade systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Go and/or Node.js.
• Experience with scalable backend systems, APIs, real-time data processing, and microservice architectures.
• Strong SQL knowledge and experience with databases or data stores such as DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch.
• Knowledge of Git, IDEs, shell scripting, and CI/CD workflows.
• Ability to independently investigate complex technical problems and implement improvements.
• Strong English communication skills for globally distributed, asynchronous collaboration.
• Ability to work independently and contribute to technical discussions and team decisions.
• A relevant bachelor's or master's degree is advantageous; equivalent professional experience is valued.
• Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation is a plus.
• Additional experience with listed data, backend, and cloud technologies is beneficial.
• Observability and monitoring experience, including Datadog, is preferred.

Compensation

• For US-based employees, the listed cash compensation range is US$130,000–US$180,000 per year.
• Compensation ranges may vary depending on hiring location.
