Position Department: Athletics Administration Position School: Administration Overview: Robert Morris University Department of Athletics seeks a Graduate Assistant for Student-Athlete Academic Services to support the academic growth, course enrollment, and progress-toward-degree for Division I student-athletes.
Working directly alongside Athletic Academic Advisors, the Graduate Assistant will assist student-athletes with class registration, degree planning, and semester schedule optimization to ensure proper credit hours and degree progression.
This position focuses on academic tracking, learning strategies, and helping student-athletes successfully navigate university degree requirements each term.
This individual will directly guide assigned Division I student-athletes through the degree completion process by monitoring degree progress, credit hour accumulation, and semester GPAs each term. In this role, the GA will assist student-athletes with semester course registration, helping them build balanced schedules that satisfy degree requirements while accommodating training and travel schedules. The GA will meet regularly with student-athletes to review degree audits, evaluate academic performance, and implement individualized study plans and learning strategies to keep them on track for graduation. Additionally, the GA will coordinate with campus academic advisors and faculty to address course registration obstacles, verify continuous degree progression, and deliver proactive academic support across various major programs. Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must be fully admitted to a graduate degree program at the university, with preference given to those pursuing degrees in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Sports Management, Counseling, or Academic Advising. The position requires a strong understanding of university academic structures, degree audits, and course registration processes, along with exceptional communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Preferred candidates will have prior experience in peer academic advising, tutoring, or collegiate athletics, along with familiarity with university student information systems (Banner and Blackboard). The ideal candidate demonstrates a genuine commitment to supporting diverse student-athlete populations and possesses the ability to effectively guide students through degree planning and academic challenge.
