Related undergraduate law degree. Equivalencies may be considered.

Member of the Law Society of Alberta or be eligible for admission.

Eight years or more experience in practicing criminal law.

Significant senior management experience.

Experience developing successful working relationships across a wide array of stakeholders.

Experience leading change management efforts.

Expert knowledge of criminal law and procedure including criminal investigative techniques.

Expert knowledge of criminal prosecutions in Alberta and the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service.

Expert understanding of the Police Act, Criminal Code, Canada Evidence Act and other applicable legislation.

Expert understanding of criminal investigative techniques and compliance with the Criminal Code and Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Cultural competencies for working with Indigenous and diverse communities.

Proven negotiation and facilitation skills to work with stakeholders with varied requirements and agendas and resolve conflicts.

Demonstrated interpersonal and consulting skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior representatives across government, sector, and department.

Professional judgment and decision-making skills along with conceptual and critical thinking skills to monitor and evaluate systems and processes and work toward continuous improvement.

Excellent presentation skills to tailor content to different audiences.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and application of different strategies to work with different audiences.

Creativity to foster innovation and guide staff through transformation and change.

Human and financial resource management approaches and Government of Alberta requirements to effectively lead the unit.

Ability to operate and make decisions independently.

There is one full time, permanent position. Candidate can be located in either Calgary or Edmonton

Final candidates will be required to undergo, pass and maintain a federal and level of security clearance throughout their employment at ASIRT. Background checks, including a review of previous law enforcement service history and disciplinary history, will be considered.

A valid class 5 Drivers license is required.
