Key Responsibilities
- Interpret diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and other verbal or written technical instructions.
- Adhere to product quality standards and requirements, identify defective items, and follow established handling procedures.
- Locate, align, and assemble parts and assemblies using drawings, instructions, assembly tools, and required materials.
- Drill, ream, countersink, seal, and fasten parts or assemblies in the correct sequence and to specification.
- Apply sealant, Alodine, primer, adhesives, and special finishes while using appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Inspect completed work for assembly accuracy, defects, and cleanliness before submitting it for inspection.
- Install bushes and bearings using liquid nitrogen, heat treatment, or dry ice press-fitting methods.
- Install fluid or hydraulic fittings and connectors and perform electrical bonding tasks.
- Use hand and power tools precisely and apply product acceptance testing and troubleshooting knowledge.
- Model organisational values, work independently and collaboratively, and train or mentor subordinate staff.
Qualifications and Experience
- Mechanical trade certification or a diploma with relevant proven experience in aerospace OEM structure assembly.
- At least five years of experience as an aerospace sheet metal assembler for Class 1 aerostructures.
- Experience working for a major aerospace OEM.
- Expertise in sheet metal assembly processes, assembly tooling and jigs, and pneumatic assembly tool usage and repair.
- Understanding of design models, ERP systems, manufacturing planning, and assembly process specification requirements.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and improvement concepts.
- Ability to train and mentor subordinate staff.
