Responsibilities
- Maintain all quarantine holding tanks and ensure ideal water parameters for livestock
- Perform regular water changes, parameter checks and daily cleaning
- Observe and identify sick fish and livestock, inform quarantine specialist of abnormalities
- Administer treatments as recommended by quarantine specialist
- Keep accurate records of treatments, water changes and mortalities
- Ensure equipment is cared for, cleaned, disinfected and replaced if needed
- Receive livestock shipments, acclimate correctly and record DOAs
- Prepare livestock for transfer to stores, ensuring proper oxygen and sealing
- Aid store staff with information and assistance when needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 2 years working in the aquarium industry, aquaculture or similar
- Good understanding of aquarium systems and water parameters
- Knowledge of freshwater and marine aquatic illnesses and treatment methods
- Good reporting and observation skills
- Understanding of biosecurity and disinfection
- Experience working in a team and high pressure environment
- Proficiency in English
- Excellent aquatic husbandry knowledge

Role Overview
- The Quarantine Technician is responsible for the welfare of livestock within the in house quarantine facility.
- This role includes maintenance and upkeep of all aquarium systems and consistent application of best practice husbandry protocols.
- A strong understanding of biosecure protocols is essential, along with hands on expertise in aquatic husbandry and ability to identify potential aquatic illnesses.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining all quarantine holding tanks, making sure the water parameters are ideal for the relevant livestock
- Performing regular water changes, parameter checks and daily cleaning
- Observing and identifying possible sick fish and livestock, informing the quarantine specialist of any abnormalities
- Administering treatments as recommended by the quarantine specialist with the utmost care
- Keeping accurate records of all treatments, water changes completed as well as any mortalities found
- Ensuring all equipment are cared for, properly cleaned and disinfected and notified if replacements are needed
- Receive regular livestock shipments as organized by the Quarantine Team Supervisor, acclimating correctly and recording any DOAs
- Preparing livestock for transfer to The Petshop aquatic stores, ensuring all fish bags are sufficiently supplied with oxygen and seal correctly
- Aid store staff wherever needed, providing information and assistance if called upon
Must Have Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is essential.
- At least 2 years working in the aquarium industry, aquaculture or similar.
- A good understanding of aquarium systems, how each piece of equipment functions and how to achieve perfect water parameters.
- Knowledge of both freshwater and marine aquatic illnesses, the key indicators and the associated treatment methods.
- Good reporting and observation skills.
- An understanding of the importance of being bio secure, and how to properly keep the quarantine area clean and disinfected.
- Experience working in a team and in a high pressure environment.
- Proficiency in English is essential.
- Excellent aquatic husbandry knowledge.
