Applied AI Backend Sr. Software Developer - Ottawa, ON

Position summary

Workplace

• This is a hybrid role requiring at least three days per week in the Ottawa office.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex feature implementation using AI coding assistants.
• Own features from design and prototyping through deployment and maintenance.
• Review team code, including AI-generated code, for architecture and security.
• Design and deploy scalable microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Develop application code, Infrastructure as Code, tests, and monitoring components.
• Mentor junior and intermediate developers in AI-native workflows.
• Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for distributed systems.
• Collaborate with product, UX, and SRE teams on technical specifications and delivery.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience focused on backend systems and cloud-native SaaS.
• Proficiency in one or more of Go, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Experience integrating AI tools into the software development lifecycle.
• Cloud-native development experience on AWS or Azure with microservices, REST APIs, and asynchronous messaging.
• Strong experience with automated CI/CD pipelines, reliability, and monitoring.
• Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Compensation

• Expected compensation ranges from CAD 105,000 to CAD 130,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
• The position includes an opportunity for a performance-based bonus.
