Applied AI Backend Sr. Software Developer - Ottawa, ON

Position Summary

Location and Work Arrangement

• This is a hybrid role requiring at least 3 days per week in the Ottawa, Ontario office.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex feature implementation with AI coding assistants and compare architectural approaches.
• Own features from design and prototyping through deployment and maintenance.
• Review AI-generated and team-contributed code for architecture, security, and system context.
• Design and deploy scalable microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Build application code, Infrastructure as Code, tests, monitoring, and telemetry.
• Mentor junior and intermediate developers in safe AI-native workflows.
• Lead troubleshooting of distributed systems and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with product, UX, and SRE teams on technical specifications and delivery.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience focused on backend systems and cloud-native SaaS.
• Proficiency in one or more of Go, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Experience integrating AI tools throughout the development lifecycle.
• Significant AWS or Azure cloud-native development experience with microservices, REST APIs, and asynchronous messaging.
• Strong automated CI/CD, reliability, and monitoring experience.
• Excellent problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills.
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Compensation

• Expected compensation ranges from CAD 105,000 to CAD 130,000 annually based on experience and qualifications.
• The position includes a bonus opportunity tied to company performance.
