Responsibilities
- Assist the 2nd and Chief Engineers in daily engine maintenance and repair tasks.
- Monitor and record engine performance data, identifying any potential issues or anomalies.
- Conduct regular inspections and tests to ensure the engine's optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose engine-related problems, implementing effective solutions.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new engine components or systems.
- Collaborate with other engineering team members to ensure seamless integration of the dredging engine with other vessel systems.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all maintenance and repair activities.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations at all times.
- Provide support and guidance to junior engineering staff as needed.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a 3rd Engineer or equivalent role in the marine industry, preferably on dredgers.
- A valid 3rd Engineer's License or similar certification.
- Strong knowledge of marine engine systems, including diesel engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment.
- Proficiency in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating effective communication and collaboration.
- Willingness to work in a dynamic and sometimes challenging marine environment.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor as required.
- A commitment to safety and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, including shifts and overtime, as needed.
