WWTP Assistant Superintendent

Thorough knowledge of the practices and techniques of operating a wastewater treatment facility; thorough knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operational processes, equipment and compliance monitoring. ; Thorough knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations regarding operations, water quality and safety. Ability to interpret and compile statistical data ; Ability to coordinate the daily activities of operations staff and the effective operation of all equipment; thorough knowledge of the safe operation of light to medium construction equipment and vehicles; thorough knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards of the work; skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; skill in the use of hand and power tools; skill in the use and operation of assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to plan, supervise and review the work of operations staff ; ability to perform manual labor; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public.

Bachelor's degree in biological science, chemistry, engineering, or related field and considerable experience performing increasingly responsible operational tasks of a wastewater treatment facility, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions, frequently requires walking and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and occasionally requires standing, sitting and climbing or balancing; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to wet humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Class III Indiana Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation certification upon hire.

The ability to obtain a Class IV Indiana Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation certification within two (2) years of hire.

Valid driver's license in the State of Indiana.
