Roseview Transit Bus Driver

Performs semiskilled work providing safe and dependable public transportation for citizens of the City and related work as apparent or assigned.

Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Manager.

• Drives and operates bus on assigned routes according to an established time schedule. Drives bus on charter trips as assigned.
• Schedules runs and changes destination sign on bus as needed.
• Operates lift for handicapped passengers in wheelchairs and assists elderly passengers and others in need of assistance.
• Treats passengers in a courteous manner and provides information regarding bus schedules as requested.
• Completes operator reports and vehicle checklists as required and submits maintenance slips for needed bus repairs as appropriate.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of specific traffic and safety laws and ability to abide by all provisions of these laws; knowledge of and ability to safely operate and drive buses in city and highway traffic, often under stressful external conditions, and in all types of weather; knowledge of city streets and established routes/schedules and ability to consistently maintain schedules as required; knowledge of and ability to properly operate two-way radio system; working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to prepare detailed activity reports as required; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements; ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with difficult persons; ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out verbal or written instructions; ability to apply knowledge of people and locations, make simple arithmetic additions/subtractions, and read/interpret detailed manuals, maps, and directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, department heads, other departments, and the general public.
