About the Role

  • The Veterinarian is responsible for providing comprehensive veterinary care to the SeaWorld Abu Dhabi animal population (mammals, fish, reptiles, birds, and invertebrates) as well as supporting the affiliated regional marine life rescue and rehabilitation program.
  • This role is integral to the maintenance of SeaWorld’s high animal welfare standards and to the advancement of the field and science of marine animal health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the maintenance and management of all aspects of collection animal health for SeaWorld Abu Dhabi including diagnosis, treatment of disease, preventative medicine programs, the animal welfare program, nutrition.
  • Oversees medical care of rescued wildlife including but not limited to dugongs, birds, sea turtles, and cetaceans.
  • Shares responsibility for the management of Animal Rescue Program with the Zoological Directors.
  • Consults and educates the Zoological colleagues, leadership teams and occasionally the public in areas of health, welfare, and husbandry.
  • Conducts animal health research projects and prepares the results for presentations and peer reviewed publications.
  • Ensures any noncompliance and safety related incidents are promptly investigated and corrective action taken as needed.
  • Assists in the field for rescues, health assessments and possible field research with various species.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree
  • Ability to obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in the UAE
  • 5 years of proven experience in a zoo, aquarium, or oceanarium organization
  • Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge with operating and utilizing Computed Tomography (CT)/ Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) imaging modalities
  • Demonstrated knowledge with professional zoo/aquarium and animal conservation communities

Desirable

  • Board eligibility, Member or Diplomat status of a recognized Veterinary statutory / professional body
