Job overview

Vaccination Assistant role within an integrated vaccination service delivering a safe and effective mass vaccination programme.

Available hours include one 37.5-hour post and two 30-hour posts per week.

The role combines vaccine administration, patient record management, administration and customer care.

Main duties

  • Administer protocol-covered vaccines after training and competency assessment.
  • Collect, verify and accurately record patient demographic and vaccination data.
  • Provide front-line administration and customer care to clients, relatives, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Confirm client identity and agreement to vaccination, address concerns and refer issues appropriately.
  • Conduct vaccinations in line with the client's condition and local and national protocols.
  • Prioritise own workload, support service administration and maintain accurate legal records.
  • Deliver vaccination sessions and health promotion as required.

Essential qualifications and knowledge

  • NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification.
  • English and Mathematics to GCSE or equivalent level.
  • HCA NVQ Level 3 pathway, willingness to work towards it or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of patient administration systems, databases, data protection and confidentiality.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook skills.

Essential experience and capability

  • Willingness to complete vaccine, administration, basic life support and NHS statutory and mandatory training.
  • Experience in a busy public-facing working environment.
  • Experience handling sensitive information and difficult conversations with tact and persuasion.
  • Ability to make decisions within role competence and work according to protocols under clinical supervision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, work flexibly, prioritise tasks and meet quality standards.

Skills and attributes

  • Excellent written, verbal and telephone communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex condition-related information with empathy and reassurance.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and preserve client confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and respond to changing workload demands.
  • Welsh language skills are desirable, with willingness to learn Welsh also stated.

Workplace

  • The role is based in a vaccination centre and requires in-person vaccine administration and patient-facing service delivery.
