Do you take pride in knowing that when something leaves your hands, it’s right — not close, but right?

Do you find real satisfaction in mastering a piece of equipment until it does exactly what you tell it to?

Are you the person who catches the fit problem at the positioning stage — before it becomes a rework?

Do you thrive in an environment where the standard is clear, the work is physical, and the craft is something you build on every single day?

Is there something genuinely satisfying about knowing that the vehicles you help build go on to serve first responders in the field?

If this sounds like you, then we need to talk…

Frazer, a leading builder of emergency medical vehicles and mobile healthcare units, is currently seeking an Upfit Technician to join our FIN Mount team. The Upfit Technician at Frazer is a hands-on, build-critical role responsible for mounting and securing vehicle modules to chassis — executing alignment, drilling, bolting, exterior installations, and lift machine operations to the exacting standards that make every Frazer vehicle ready for the road and the communities it will serve. This is a role where precision matters, mastery is rewarded, and the work you do every day makes a real difference.

What Does a Week in the Life of the Upfit Technician Look Like?

  • Reports to the shop floor at 5:00 AM and prepares for the build — reviewing work orders, staging exterior components, and confirming the mount sequence before the shift kicks off.
  • Positions and aligns vehicle modules on chassis using the lift machine, verifying fit and clearance at each stage before any drilling or bolting begins.
  • Operates power tools — drills, grinders, and pneumatic equipment — to install tread plates, mud flaps, generator assemblies, and other exterior components to manufacturer specifications.
  • Executes steel-frame drilling and module bolting per current standardized work instructions, applying correct torque specifications and fastener sequences throughout.
  • Performs fit and alignment checks at each build milestone, identifying and resolving discrepancies before they generate downstream rework or require escalation.
  • Coordinates with engineering on chassis variations, model-year differences, and custom build questions — translating field observations into technical communication that keeps the build moving (Level III–IV).
  • Mentors and trains newer technicians on lift operation, alignment technique, and SWI compliance during live builds — building the team’s capability one shift at a time (Level III–IV).
  • Wraps the shift with a clean, organized workspace, completed sign-offs, and a build that meets the Frazer standard — because the standard doesn’t slide at 1:30.

For Level I Placement

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude or hands-on experience with power tools in a production, trades, or automotive setting.
  • Ability to read and follow written work instructions and assembly documentation.
  • Active, valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

For Level Ii Placement

  • 1+ years of experience in mechanical assembly, vehicle upfit, or a related production role.
  • Experience operating lift, heavy positioning, or equivalent mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings or work order documentation.

For Level Iii Placement

  • 2+ years in vehicle mounting, upfit, or mechanical assembly, including varied or non-standard chassis types.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute the full mount scope independently.
  • Experience coordinating with engineering or technical teams on field-level chassis questions.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • ASE certification, Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification, or equivalent technical credential.
  • Prior experience with custom, non-standard, or prototype chassis builds.
  • Lead, SME, or formal training-role experience in a manufacturing or technical production environment.

Skills (To Pay The Bills)

Here’s a list of a few competencies that the Upfit Technician at Frazer should have…

  • You’re precise by nature — you read alignment with your eyes and your hands, and you don’t proceed until it’s right.
  • You take real ownership of your work and hold yourself to a standard that doesn’t budge when the shift is almost over.
  • You’re methodical — you follow the work instructions because you understand that consistency is what quality depends on.
  • You spot the problem before it becomes a rework, and you say something rather than hoping it works out.
  • You get better at something the more you do it — and eventually become the person others come to when they’re stuck.
  • You communicate clearly when something in the field doesn’t match what’s on the drawing, because engineering needs that information to fix it at the source.
