Role Overview

Develop, integrate, and validate unmanned aerial vehicle systems in an aerospace and defence engineering environment.

The work spans onboard electronics, flight controls, sensors, embedded software, simulation, and flight testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate UAV electronic hardware and avionics assemblies.
  • Integrate flight-control computers, sensors, communication interfaces, and onboard systems.
  • Calibrate IMU, GNSS, LiDAR, and vision-based sensors.
  • Configure PX4 and ArduPilot autopilots and deploy flight-control firmware.
  • Perform simulation, parameter optimisation, PID tuning, ground testing, and flight validation.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, sensors, communications, flight controls, and integrated UAV systems.
  • Maintain technical records, configuration data, test results, and engineering documentation.
  • Follow engineering, quality, safety, and operational procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline such as electrical, electronics, mechatronics, computer, or aerospace engineering.
  • Relevant professional experience in UAV, flight-control, avionics, embedded systems, robotics, or similar engineering work.
  • Practical electronic hardware and avionics integration and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with PX4 and/or ArduPilot autopilot platforms.
  • Experience integrating, calibrating, and configuring UAV sensors.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems, flight-control architectures, and hardware/software integration.
  • Understanding of UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, and telemetry systems.
  • Experience with simulation environments and knowledge of flight dynamics and UAV operations.

Technical Skills

  • Flight-controller configuration, firmware deployment, parameter optimisation, and PID tuning.
  • Pixhawk-based flight-controller ecosystems and hardware/software interface troubleshooting.
  • SITL, HITL, ground testing, flight validation, and UAV performance troubleshooting.

Preferred Experience

  • UAV or drone development, operation, piloting, or flight-testing experience is preferred.
  • Experience with sensors, payloads, onboard systems, autonomous flight, or navigation technologies is preferred.
  • Embedded programming, firmware development, or UAV scripting experience is preferred.
  • Background in aerospace, defence, robotics, or advanced R&D is preferred.

Ability to collaborate across hardware, software, and systems engineering teams.

Attention to detail in testing, configuration, and technical documentation.
