Role overview

The Technical Lead will provide technical authority, assurance, and leadership across water and wastewater capital projects.

The role covers clean water, wastewater, and multifunctional assets delivered through large-scale infrastructure programmes.

The position involves travel in the South of England.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure technical solutions are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and fit for purpose throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Act as the key technical interface between clients, designers, operations, and internal functions.
  • Lead and approve early contractor involvement, feasibility, optioneering, and detailed design.
  • Chair design reviews and technical gateways.
  • Fulfil Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015 and champion safety by design.
  • Manage technical risk and resolve complex issues while supporting planning, cost, change control, and client engagement.
  • Mentor technical staff and promote best practice, standardisation, innovation, and digital engineering.

What you will bring

  • A degree or equivalent in an engineering or scientific discipline, such as civil, mechanical, electrical, or process engineering.
  • Significant UK water and wastewater engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of water industry standards and governance.
  • Proven multidisciplinary technical leadership.
  • Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.
  • Knowledge of construction, NRSWA, CDM 2015, health and safety, and process safety.
  • A safety-focused, quality-driven, proactive, solutions-oriented, collaborative, and client-focused approach.
