About the Role

- Attend meetings and complete readings for assigned courses

- Hold office hours to assist students with coursework
- Assist professors with in class discussions
- Assist professors with feedback on student written drafts
- Assist professors with monitoring class attendance
- Assist professors with exam proctoring
- Assist professors with course LMS
- Assist professors with objective grading as appropriate
- Conduct review sessions as required
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a discipline relevant to the GU Q curriculum
- Knowledge of introductory level political philosophy and international relations theory
- Working knowledge of Canvas LMS management
- Excellent interpersonal and consensus building skills
- Locally based in Doha (no relocation assistance)

Overview

Key Accountabilities
- Support student engagement with and understanding of course materials through class attendance and interaction, recitation sections, review of materials, feedback to students, coordination with faculty, and consultation with students.
- Develop strategies and expertise in learning facilitation through on going training, supervision and mentoring as part of an interdisciplinary student success unit.
Key Activities
- Attend meetings and complete readings for assigned courses.
- Communicate and collaborate with GUQ faculty and OAS staff.
- Participate in relevant OAS training, supervision and mentoring sessions.
- Hold office hours to assist students with course work.
- Assist assigned professors with in class discussions.
- Assist assigned professors with feedback on student written drafts.
- Assist assigned professors with monitoring class attendance.
- Assist assigned professors with exam proctoring.
- Assist assigned professors with course LMS.
- Assist assigned professors with objective grading, as appropriate.
- Conduct review sessions, as required.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of introductory level political philosophy and international relations theory.
- Working knowledge of Canvas LMS management.
- Good knowledge of or desire to learn active, adaptive, and experiential learning strategies.
- Creativity, flexibility, and forward thinking.
- Ability to learn and use educational technologies.
- Outstanding interpersonal and consensus building skills.
- Intellectual curiosity within one’s field and the higher education landscape.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relevant to the GU Q curriculum.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- GU Q graduates currently enrolled or recently completed post graduate programs preferred.
Experience
- Experience as undergraduate tutor, mentor, or academic assistant preferred.
- Superior performance and engagement as an undergraduate student.
