Sustainability EHS Manager

Act as the local sustainability subject-matter lead and translate SKF Group and SKF Magnetic commitments into practical site programs, targets, and initiatives.

Develop, implement, and monitor the site sustainability roadmap, including Net Zero, waste, circularity, water, responsible sourcing, and other applicable priorities.

Coordinate site participation in the Sustainability Ambassador program and maintain connections with relevant internal, industry, and community sustainability networks.

Partner with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Product Management to assess lifecycle impacts, manufacturing circularity, waste-reduction opportunities, and product carbon-footprint inputs.

Coordinate responses to customer sustainability requests, questionnaires, data submissions, and related evidence requirements.

Conduct or support impact assessments, materiality reviews, climate-risk assessments, and other analyses required by the business.

Coordinate the collection, validation, documentation, and submission of site data for non-financial sustainability reporting, including greenhouse-gas emissions and applicable CSRD inputs.

Assess sustainability capability needs across the site, identify gaps, and support awareness, training, and skill development.

Continuously improve sustainability processes, controls, reporting quality, and administrative efficiency.

Act as the local subject-matter lead for energy management, decarbonization, and climate adaptation, supporting MSU and SKF Group objectives.

Develop and maintain site roadmaps for energy efficiency, greenhouse-gas reduction, climate resilience, and ISO 50001 certification where relevant.

Identify, assess, and prioritize technical solutions based on safety, regulatory compliance, energy performance, carbon reduction, lifecycle cost, and operational impact.

Develop business cases and lead or coordinate approved projects, including technical studies, requests for quotation, incentive applications, contractor selection, implementation, and benefits verification.

Monitor and report site energy, emissions, and climate-related indicators, including required regulatory and Group reporting.

Coordinate evaluation and follow-up of suggestions related to buildings, utilities, energy conservation, decarbonization, and climate resilience.

Promote employee awareness and practical behaviours that reduce energy use and environmental impact.

Maintain the site EHS management system in conformance with applicable legislation, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, SKF Group requirements, and local policies.

Monitor changes to regulatory, normative, and internal requirements; assess site impacts and coordinate implementation of required actions.

Prepare, maintain, and control EHS procedures, standards, records, and supporting documentation.

Coordinate site hazard assessments and Job Safety Analyses with managers and employees; track preventive and corrective actions to completion.

Support equipment, process, chemical, and change-management risk reviews to confirm appropriate engineering, administrative, and personal protective controls.

Develop and maintain emergency-response arrangements for fire, chemical release, medical events, severe weather, evacuation, and other credible site emergencies.

Ensure incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, first-aid cases, and recordable events are reported in a timely manner, investigated, root-caused, and followed by effective preventive and corrective actions.

Lead or coordinate waste-management improvements, including segregation, collection, recycling, hazardous-waste controls, and progress toward zero waste to landfill.

Develop the annual EHS plan and budget, prepare management reviews, and recommend priorities for the site and MSU EHS roadmap.

Plan and support internal self-assessments, SKF Group audits, external certification audits, and regulatory inspections; coordinate timely closure of findings.

Continuously improve the effectiveness, usability, and efficiency of the EHS management system.

Develop and administer the EHS training matrix and annual training plan, including onboarding, role-specific requirements, new equipment or process training, and refresher training.

Coach managers, supervisors, and employees on EHS responsibilities, legal requirements, safe work practices, and timely escalation of hazards and non-conformances.

Participate in daily management meetings and communicate relevant safety concerns, corrective actions, lessons learned, and current priorities.

Promote proactive reporting and employee engagement through safety walks, observations, Open Your Eyes submissions, and visible follow-up of reported concerns.

Respond to safety concerns in a timely manner and work with affected teams to identify and obtain appropriate controls, PPE, tools, or equipment.

Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee, including meeting preparation, recommendations, inspections, action tracking, and required records.

Maintain site EHS metrics and submit accurate, timely reports through the required local, MSU, and SKF Group systems.

Act as a role model for the rest of the organization and encourage best safety practices.

Develop and maintain medium- and long-term plans for site infrastructure, building systems, space requirements, and facility improvements.

Manage the landlord relationship, where applicable, and coordinate facility-related obligations, repairs, service issues, and improvement requests.

Prepare the annual facilities operating and capital budget, ensuring proposed investments align with approved site plans and business priorities.

Monitor approved facility investments, schedules, costs, risks, and benefits; provide regular progress and budget reporting to site management.

Coordinate contractors, quotations, scopes of work, site access, and completion documentation for facility projects and repairs.

Maintain a preventive-maintenance and inspection program for building systems and designated shared equipment, including compressors, cranes, forklifts, fire protection, and other regulated assets.

Ensure maintenance, inspections, permits, certifications, deficiencies, and corrective actions are scheduled, completed, and appropriately documented.

Work with operational equipment owners to clarify responsibilities, escalate overdue actions, and address reliability or compliance risks.

Monitor safe work practices performed by contractors and ensure safety related documentation is in place

Engage with the supply chain and purchasing teams to setup suppliers to service the organization

Post-secondary degree or diploma in occupational health and safety, environmental science, sustainability, engineering, facilities management, or a related discipline.

Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.

Formal training in ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.

Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license and current First Aid/CPR certification are preferred for site and emergency-response responsibilities.

Sustainability credentials / education?

Familiarity with Alberta OHS legislation.

Familiarity with ISO 45001 / 14001 criteria, and ability to support an audit.

Ability to identify potential hazards and implement strategies to mitigate risks.

Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety programs.

Commitment to ongoing improvement of EH&S policies and procedures.

Ability to communicate to stakeholders, and individuals – including holding difficult conversations around safety risks and non-conformances.

Leadership skills to build a safety culture at all levels of the organization

Management of buildings and facilities, and knowledge of maintenance management tools.

Training in incident investigation and root-cause analysis, hazard assessment, emergency response, WHMIS, and Joint Health and Safety Committee requirements.

Knowledge of greenhouse-gas accounting, energy management, decarbonization, climate-risk assessment, waste management, and sustainability reporting; ISO 50001 knowledge is an asset.

Normally a desk job. The role requires frequent interaction with the manufacturing floor and facility equipment.
