Purpose of the Role

The EM Construction Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for supervising on- site mechanical installation activities and providing the necessary coordination with civil works.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline, or completion of high school, technical school or college credits
  • White Card

Experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience working in mechanical installation, testing and commissioning on-site in a similar role, hydro experience is desirable

Experience working on large-scale construction projects or equivalent project-based work

Required Competencies

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)

Strong understanding of mechanical systems, codes, and standards, including knowledge of installation, testing and commissioning practices, and troubleshooting techniques

Strong project management capabilities, with proven ability to meet deadlines in a contracting environment

Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively, fostering a collaborative work environment

Strong understanding of project planning and management within the construction industry

Active listening skills and relationship building skills

Excellent organisational and time-management skills

Effective problem-solving skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach

Ability to analyse situations quickly and objectively to determine appropriate actions

Physically capable of navigating and working within construction sites and field-based assignments

Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills and ability to work effectively and independently

Keen eye for detail to ensure high-quality work and compliance with safety regulations and project specifications

Sound knowledge of safety practices and regulations in the construction industry to enforce a safe working environment

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Support EM Site Engineers and Civil Construction Managers in all aspects of operations and task execution.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for improvement in site activities and daily operations.
  • Collaborate with other trade surveyors to collect quantities, measurements, and relative information as required.
  • Supervise EM site installations in coordination with site engineers.
  • Maintain accurate, organised and complete field notes.
  • Communicate regularly with EM Site Engineers and EM Subcontractor staff.
  • Ensure that crews comply daily with FGJV and client specific safety guidelines and provide required safety documentation and records.
  • Review meetings to monitor progress of various projects against target schedules, report findings to EM site engineers.
  • Follow-up on the implementation of site quality control and quality management plans.
  • Ensure all mechanical plant installations comply with approved method statement and Inspection & Test Plans (ITP’s).
  • Report non-confirming installations or activities to EM Engineers, assist in updating construction schedules and reporting installed EM quantities.
  • Assist engineers in preparing reports on work volume and construction progress.
  • Oversee proper implementation of lifting plans for EM component handling – both in yard operations and final mechanical installation locations.
  • Coordinate use of permanent and construction cranes with the Civil Construction team and EM Subcontractors to ensure efficient installation activities.
  • Assist engineers in inspecting delivered EM components and verifying equipment availability. and timely delivery, with focus on interface works between EM Subcontractors and FGJV Construction.
  • Conduct regular field safety audits, jobsite inspections, and support the development of site safety and logistics plans.
  • Ensures completion and submission of all required documentation and reports.
  • Supervises interfaces between EM Subcontractor and FGJV Construction & Plant team including utility workers, facility operators, and contractors.
  • Maintain and update databases that support and track site operations.
  • Collaborate with the area engineering department to ensure projects meet specifications and are fully documented and delivered on schedule.
  • Maintain close oversight of site operations to ensure optimal use of manpower, skills, equipment, and resources.
