Role overview

Provide senior technical leadership for the StorNext sustaining engineering team.

Own complex field escalations, StorNext Storage Manager and filesystem components, platform modernization, and engineering infrastructure.

Work independently across customer support, product engineering, QA, and release operations.

Sustaining engineering and escalation support

  • Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of complex customer escalations using crash dumps, field logs, and production diagnostics.
  • Evaluate feature requests with Product Management and senior engineering stakeholders.
  • Drive compatibility with new Red Hat, Linux distribution, Windows, and other operating system releases.
  • Provide technical direction for snauditlogs, TSM/MSM, the legacy Java GUI, and third-party packages.
  • Engage customers, Support, QA, Product Management, and Engineering leadership to resolve high-impact escalations.

Engineering environments and build infrastructure

  • Architect, build, and maintain VM templates and engineering environments for development, build, and test workflows.
  • Create Linux templates for Alma, Oracle, Rocky, Red Hat, Debian, Ubuntu, and SLES, plus Windows 11 templates.
  • Modernize and troubleshoot PHP, Perl, and related deployment automation.
  • Resolve package manager, installation, networking, OS compatibility, and configuration issues.
  • Create and maintain VMs for build machines and sustaining engineering environments.
  • Integrate packages, build systems, and automation with Jenkins and continuous integration infrastructure.

Offline File Manager ownership

  • Evaluate, debug, and resolve complex customer-reported Offline File Manager issues.
  • Design and implement Offline File Manager enhancements while balancing customer impact, technical debt, and release risk.
  • Mentor QA engineers and developers on Offline File Manager architecture, operations, troubleshooting, and best practices.

Required qualifications

  • At least 8 years of professional systems software development experience using C and/or C++.
  • Deep Linux systems experience across Red Hat and Debian/Ubuntu variants, including installation, packaging, networking, services, and OS troubleshooting.
  • Expert C and C++ programming experience, including C++11 or C++17, plus strong Python scripting and automation skills.
  • Advanced debugging with GDB, system logs, core files, crash dumps, and other production diagnostic artifacts.
  • Root-cause analysis experience for complex multi-process, distributed, or timing-sensitive software failures.
  • Strong knowledge of build systems, compilers, linker errors, dependency management, and release engineering.
  • Experience with multi-process systems, inter-process communication, and long-running services.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and Scrum or similar agile environments.

Preferred qualifications

  • Windows and Mac development experience, particularly in mixed-platform engineering or customer environments.
  • Experience with RPC, TCP, and other inter-process or distributed communication mechanisms.
  • Additional experience with Objective-C, Perl, PHP, Java, Assembly, JSON, or similar legacy enterprise technologies.
  • Knowledge of networking, authentication, directory services, SSSD, and Active Directory integration.
