Steel Structure and Welding Supervisor

Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise fabrication, structural assembly, welding, cutting, fitting, grinding, and preparation activities.
• Allocate work to welders, fabricators, fitters, technicians, and workshop personnel.
• Review drawings, welding details, material specifications, work instructions, and project requirements.
• Ensure work meets approved drawings, dimensions, tolerances, procedures, and quality standards.
• Supervise approved welding processes and monitor fit-up, alignment, preheating, interpass temperatures, and post-weld requirements.
• Inspect completed work, support weld inspections and non-destructive testing, and manage corrective actions.
• Track materials, consumables, equipment readiness, productivity, rework, progress, and daily records.
• Conduct safety talks and inspections, enforce hot work controls and PPE, support training, and prepare structures for treatment, transport, and installation.

Requirements

• Technical qualification, diploma, or equivalent experience in welding, steel fabrication, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience.
• Proven experience supervising steel structure fabrication, welding, structural assembly, or heavy industrial workshop operations.
• Ability to read structural and fabrication drawings, weld symbols, material specifications, and inspection requirements.
• Knowledge of welding procedures, welder qualifications, consumables, joint preparation, sequences, and weld defect identification.
• Understanding of welding, fabrication, structural, quality, and health and safety standards.
• Experience coordinating workshop teams and planning daily activities to meet production deadlines.
• Competence in dimensional and weld inspection, with awareness of non-destructive testing and quality documentation.
• Strong workshop safety knowledge, including hot work, lifting operations, and working at height.
• Good communication, leadership, problem-solving, and basic root-cause analysis skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Welding, fabrication or inspection, or safety certifications are advantageous.
• Experience in construction, manufacturing, structural steel, heavy engineering, oil and gas, shipbuilding, or industrial fabrication is advantageous.
