We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced State Tax Counsel ready to take on complex challenges within a Fortune 50 multinational corporation. You will gain a wide variety of experience and manage a multi-jurisdiction portfolio of state and local tax matters. Advise on state and local tax planning opportunities arising from business transactions, restructurings, and operational changes

Research and analyze complex state tax issues and develop practical, business-focused solutions

Lead and support state tax controversy matters, including audits, appeals, administrative proceedings, and litigation

Monitor and assess legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments affecting the company's state tax profile

Partner with business, legal, finance, and tax teams to manage state tax risks and maximize value

We are seeking an attorney with a strong background in state and local tax planning and controversy who possesses the following qualifications:

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum of 7 years of state and local tax experience, including tax planning, controversy, or multistate tax advisory work

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree

Licensed to practice law in at least one state

Strong knowledge of state income and franchise taxation principles, including nexus, apportionment, and sourcing

Demonstrated ability to analyze complex tax issues and communicate practical recommendations to business and tax stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

Tax LL.M. preferred

Experience representing clients before state taxing authorities or supporting state tax controversy matters

Experience advising multinational or multistate businesses on state tax planning initiatives

Familiarity with state tax implications of mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and legal entity simplification projects

Experience evaluating the state tax consequences of evolving business models, supply chains, and commercial transactions

Strong project management skills

Adds value by collaborating effectively with colleagues, clients, and other support functions

Shares knowledge to develop capabilities of the whole team

Excellent legal research, technical writing, and advocacy skills
