The Staff Software Engineer will shape Canva's mobile development tooling, test automation pipeline, and quality strategy.
The role supports a large migration toward a native-grade mobile experience across iOS, Android, and web.
Mobile Workflows owns infrastructure used by hundreds of engineers to develop and ship mobile products.
Responsibilities
- Own architecture and roadmap for mobile tooling, simulator and emulator setup, device orchestration, and CLI tools.
- Lead synthetic and integration test automation across mobile platforms.
- Set CI/CD quality gates and surface quality problems before production.
- Align Native Infra, Cross Platform, and DevX around a cohesive mobile workflow system.
- Define company-wide mobile testing standards, triage workflows, monitoring, and quality signals.
- Mentor team members and help attract and assess mobile engineering talent.
Candidate profile
- Deep expertise in at least one of iOS or Android, working knowledge of the other, and experience with cross-platform approaches.
- Production experience with React Native or a comparable cross-platform mobile framework at meaningful scale.
- Experience building or shaping a mobile test automation framework adopted by other teams.
- Experience defining quality gates or improving CI/CD pipelines, including mobile build systems or device farms.
- Track record delivering complex cross-team technical projects and influencing teams without direct authority.
- Ability to produce durable technical standards and documentation while balancing strategy with execution.
Advantageous experience
- Experience with BrowserStack, Firebase Test Lab, or a similar cloud device testing platform is advantageous.
- Experience with Bazel-based monorepo CI/CD, mobile platform transitions, or technical advocacy is advantageous.

The Mobile Platform group provides platform support for mobile development from ideation through deployment.
Mobile Workflows is part of Canva's Product Platform group alongside Cross Platform and Native Infra.
