Role Purpose

Lead the Environment, Health and Safety agenda across Julphar's Ras Al Khaimah pharmaceutical manufacturing campus.

Provide strategic and operational EHS leadership across production buildings, warehouses, laboratories, engineering facilities, and utilities.

Ensure activities comply with UAE and Ras Al Khaimah requirements, Julphar standards, and recognized international EHS principles.

EHS Leadership and Risk Management

  • Develop and execute the site EHS strategy, objectives, annual plans, governance, and improvement roadmap.
  • Advise site leadership and build prevention-focused EHS ownership across manufacturing, engineering, quality, supply chain, laboratories, and other functions.
  • Identify, assess, and control occupational, environmental, and process-safety risks using task assessments, HAZID, HAZOP, and other structured methods.
  • Establish critical safety systems for permit to work, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, machine safety, hot work, work at height, confined spaces, lifting, excavation, and contractors.

Process, Occupational, and Environmental Safety

  • Govern hazardous materials, flammable and combustible materials, chemical handling, dust and explosion risks, pressure systems, management of change, and pre-start-up safety reviews.
  • Lead occupational health and industrial hygiene programs covering pharmaceutical compounds, chemicals, dust, solvents, noise, ergonomics, exposure monitoring, and health surveillance.
  • Manage waste, hazardous waste, wastewater, air emissions, spills, chemicals, environmental permits, energy, water, and waste reduction.

Emergency, Incident, and Compliance Programs

  • Maintain emergency-response arrangements for fires, chemical spills, utility incidents, and other credible scenarios, including drills and lessons learned.
  • Lead reporting, investigation, escalation, root-cause analysis, and CAPA for EHS incidents, near misses, and significant events.
  • Lead inspections, internal audits, compliance assessments, regulatory inspections, permits, records, and closure of findings.
  • Integrate EHS-by-design into facility modifications, equipment, construction, commissioning, start-up, and contractor activities.

Performance and Capability

  • Establish leading and lagging EHS indicators, dashboards, management reviews, trend analysis, and focused risk-reduction initiatives.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the site EHS team and strengthen EHS competency through training, coaching, safety leadership, and employee engagement.
  • Work with Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering to maintain compatibility between EHS controls and pharmaceutical GMP requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemistry, or a related scientific or technical discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive EHS experience, including at least 5 years in EHS leadership or senior management for a complex manufacturing operation.
  • Experience in occupational safety, environmental management, industrial hygiene, chemical or process safety, emergency response, incident investigations, audits, and contractor or project safety.
  • Strong knowledge of UAE EHS requirements and experience with regulatory or governmental authorities.
  • A relevant master's degree and experience in GMP-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing are advantageous.
  • NEBOSH Diploma, CMIOSH, CSP, ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, or equivalent qualifications are preferred.

  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership, sound judgment, risk prioritization, technical understanding, and a pragmatic business-oriented approach.
  • Influence stakeholders at all organizational levels, challenge unsafe conditions constructively, and lead sustainable EHS culture change.
  • Use strong analytical, investigation, problem-solving, stakeholder-management, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent English communication is required, while Arabic is advantageous.
