Sr. Backend Engineer - Java

Technical Ownership

• Design, build, and maintain Java microservices handling complex domain workflows including state machines, multi-step journeys, and data synchronization pipelines
• Own module boundaries and API contracts across shared libraries and consuming services, ensuring clean separation of concerns
• Make and document architectural decisions — choosing patterns, evaluating trade offs, and communicating rationale to the team
• Identify and prioritize technical debt; propose and execute refactoring plans without disrupting delivery Quality & Engineering Practices - Define and enforce testing strategy: unit tests (JUnit/Mockito), integration tests (Testcontainer s), and code coverage gates (JaCoCo) - Drive CI/CD best practices — build pipeline optimization, automated quality checks, and con inuous deployment - Lead code reviews with focus on correctness, maintainability, and adherence to team conventions - Establish and role model commit discipline (conventional commits), branching strategy, and PR standards

Required Skillset

• 12+ years of backend software development in Java
• Strong proficiency in Java 17+ including modern language features
• Deep experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data JPA, Hibernate/ORM
• Hands-on production experience with MSSQL Server and MongoDB
• Experience designing and maintaining multi-module Maven projects
• Expertise in RESTful API design — versioning, error contracts, pagination, idempotency
• Solid SQL skills — complex queries, indexing strategy, migration scripts, stored procedures
• Strong understanding of concurrency — optimistic locking, race conditions, transaction isolation levels
• -Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments
• Proficient with Git workflows — branching strategies, rebasing, conflict resolution, PR based collaboration - Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar) — build optimization, automated gates, deployment automation.
• Experience with JUnit 5, Mockito, and structured test naming/organization
• Hands-on experience with Testcontainers or equivalent for DB-backed integration testing
• Familiarity with code coverage tools (JaCoCo or similar) and enforcing coverage thresholds
• Ability to design test strategies covering happy paths, edge cases, failure scenarios, and concurrency
• Experience designing domain-driven microservices with clear bounded contexts
• Familiarity with state machine / workflow orchestration patterns
• Experience with data sync pipelines — diffing, mapping, transformation, and incremental app lication
• Ability to manage cross-service dependencies and contract versioning
• Understanding of event-driven architecture concepts
