Role Overview
This position performs duties to support public solid waste disposal programs at the Douglas County transfer site and landfills in accordance with defined policies, procedures and guidelines.

Direct, advise and assist users of landfill and transfer sites in proper disposal procedures; monitor incoming traffic and disposal areas for special waste; explain and enforce departmental policy and procedures; provide recycle information; issue warnings and citations; report violations.
Resolve problems associated with facility users.
Collect special waste fees; maintain cash box and related paperwork.
Weigh all incoming loads; maintain log of incidents, violations and waste volumes.
Monitor wood waste, tire and glass areas for unauthorized disposal.
Open and close site at appointed hour; open and close barrier gates for permit holders.
As needed, operate loader to move brush piles, clean up site and recycle areas.

Position Duties
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job. Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered. however, the following is preferred: Two years combination of experience or training dealing with the public and in interpretation of policy and procedures. Knowledge of: Reasonable knowledge of solid waste disposal practices, recycle programs and public policy interpretation; reasonable knowledge of operation of loader. Skill in: directing and assisting the public with disposal policy and procedure; interpretation of policy to contractors and facility users; use of computers and related software; safe operation of equipment and tools. Ability to: Communicate effectively in oral and written forms; estimate and manage time efficiently; maintain records, and reports; remain calm and use good judgement during confrontational or high pressure situations; meet and deal effectively with employees, contractors, engineers, consultants, vendors, public agencies and the the public. Minimum Qualifications
While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass a criminal history background check as part of a contingent offer of employment.
Physical Examination / Drug Screen: Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen.
Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy.
To determine if physically qualified to perform the essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
