Software Engineering Manager (Java, AWS, Search)

Position Overview

Responsibilities

• Lead key business outcomes and contribute to company objectives and long-term service strategy.
• Design, develop, and operate scalable distributed data-intensive microservices.
• Drive resiliency best practices and improve engineering efficiency.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software.
• Inspire, coach, mentor, hire, and develop engineering talent.
• Help teams manage uncertainty and drive customer-centric engineering excellence.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 12 to 16 years of hands-on experience designing and developing cloud-scale, highly available server applications and services.
• Experience leading, mentoring, and managing development teams, including geographically distributed teams.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and data management.
• Exceptional proficiency in Java or a similar programming language.
• Expertise with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS.
• Experience developing scalable, available, and resilient distributed cloud data systems.
• Experience hiring engineering talent and managing senior engineering talent.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to information retrieval with hands-on experience in Lucene, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.
• Exposure to vector databases and ML infrastructure.
• Experience monitoring and improving reliability of complex systems at scale.
• Awareness of security and compliance challenges in cloud products or platforms.
