Software Engineer - Java Back End

Role Overview

Core Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java and Spring Boot backend services, APIs, and microservices.
• Develop RESTful APIs and event-driven services under enterprise API standards and governance.
• Deploy and support applications on Microsoft Azure using cloud-native and container platforms.
• Collaborate with architects, DevOps engineers, security teams, and product squads.
• Implement API security, encryption, and secure coding standards.
• Troubleshoot production issues, optimize performance, and support release management.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, design reviews, code reviews, and CI/CD implementation.

Technical Requirements

• Strong experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, and microservices architecture.
• Hands-on REST API, OpenAPI/Swagger, and API lifecycle management experience.
• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, mTLS, certificate management, and API security.
• Experience with Azure services including AKS, App Services, Key Vault, Storage, Application Insights, and Azure DevOps.
• Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, or comparable relational and NoSQL databases.
• Understanding of design patterns, distributed systems, resilience, fault tolerance, OWASP Top 10, and secure SDLC.
• Experience with CI/CD, DevSecOps, cloud-native development, and containerized deployments.
• Experience with Kafka, IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, or other messaging technologies.
• Knowledge of OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, Istio Service Mesh, or container orchestration platforms.

Experience and Domain Knowledge

• 5+ years of backend development experience, including at least 3 years building Spring Boot microservices.
• Proven experience delivering banking, fintech, payments, digital banking, or financial services solutions.
• Experience with banking integration patterns, API gateways such as Kong or Layer7, and enterprise integration architecture.
• Experience working in regulated environments with security, audit, and compliance requirements.
• Experience building highly available and scalable systems for mission-critical customer journeys.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with API Management platforms such as Kong or Azure API Management is advantageous.
• Knowledge of Dynatrace, Grafana, Prometheus, or Application Insights is advantageous.
• Experience in corporate banking, trade finance, payments, treasury, lending, customer onboarding, or digital banking is advantageous.
• Exposure to AI, cloud migration, and modernization programmes is advantageous.

• Deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing backend services and APIs.
• Develop reusable microservices and shared platform capabilities.
• Deploy and support applications on Azure cloud platforms.
• Provide production-ready solutions with documentation, automated testing, monitoring, and operational support readiness.
• Meet defined non-functional requirements for availability, latency, scalability, and resiliency.

Preferred Certifications

• Microsoft Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204), Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), Oracle Java, Kubernetes, and Agile certifications are preferred.
