Role overview
The role is a Data Platform Reliability Engineer within Pearson's Global Data team.
The position supports reliable, scalable, and self-service data platforms built on modern cloud technologies and distributed data pipelines.
Key responsibilities
- Use AI and GenAI tools for data discovery, metadata generation, and operational efficiency.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, ingestion, and transformation workflows.
- Enable self-service data access through datasets, documentation, and tools.
- Automate repetitive support tasks.
- Collaborate with technical and business teams to resolve data issues.
- Support enterprise data platforms for high availability and reliability.
- Support governance initiatives covering metadata, lineage, and cataloging.
- Participate in incident management, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
Required experience
- Three to four years of data engineering or data platform support experience is required.
- Strong hands-on BigQuery, GCS, and Cloud Composer experience is required.
- Data lakehouse architecture experience is required.
- Data ingestion and transformation experience is required.
- SQL and Java or Python proficiency is required.
