Role Overview

The Software Engineer II analyzes, designs, develops, tests, and delivers software solutions.

The role defines application requirements, owns component-level delivery, troubleshoots code, and contributes to technical decisions.

The engineer collaborates with product and business stakeholders and supports peers and less experienced team members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, deploy, troubleshoot, and refactor software components.
  • Adopt appropriate programming languages and architecture patterns for assigned work.
  • Participate in prioritization, requirements elaboration, estimation, and technical decision-making.
  • Contribute to engineering community learning and document APIs and services.

Experience and Technical Requirements

  • Write secure code in three or more languages, with examples including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, COBOL, and SQL.
  • Use secure coding standards such as OWASP, CWE, or SEI CERT.
  • Apply branching, peer review, code scanning, and code quality measurement practices.
  • Build unit, service, and integration tests and understand functional and non-functional testing.
  • Understand design patterns, application patterns, SDLC methods, and mission-critical software engineering principles.
  • Understand CI/CD concepts and support automation, pipelines, virtualization, and containerization.
  • Write repeatable automation tasks using languages such as Java, Python, Ruby, Bash, Perl, or Groovy.

Security Responsibility

  • Follow Mastercard security policies and practices when accessing company assets, information, and networks.
  • Maintain information confidentiality and integrity, report suspected security violations or breaches, and complete mandatory security training.
