You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers and Defence stakeholders working on the SWaP-C Optimisation Computer Technology Assessment research project. The team is focused on investigating, prototyping, integrating and evaluating current and emerging compute technologies, with an emphasis on practical, evidence-based assessment. Working collaboratively across research and engineering disciplines, you’ll help establish representative test and evaluation environments and an integrated, governed and version-controlled toolset to support future technology assessments. This is a collaborative environment where software engineering expertise directly contributes to research outcomes and helps shape the understanding and roadmap of advanced computing technologies.

To join our community and thrive in this role, you will likely have the following skills and experience:
Relevant degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
High-level software engineering capability in C/C++ and Python, including development, debugging, testing and maintenance of research or production-quality software.
Strong experience with Linux-based systems, source control, build systems, scripting and automation, with desirable experience in CI/CD, containers and infrastructure automation.
Demonstrated expertise in performance engineering, benchmarking, profiling and systems measurement, including designing repeatable experiments and analysing quantitative results.
Knowledge of computer architecture and heterogeneous computing, with practical experience integrating hardware/software toolchains, drivers, SDKs, compilers, profilers or instrumentation across CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, SoCs/MPSoCs or accelerators; strong technical communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
Ability to deliver project outcomes to agreed milestones, handle sensitive project information and comply with security requirements
Australian Citizenship and eligibility to obtain an NV1 clearance required
