Functional Relationships
The Site Operations Manager collaborates closely with:
- Regional functional departments, including Capital Projects, Finance, Maintenance, Quality, and Logistics
- Mid-level management peers across North America
- Engineering and Technical Group personnel
- Corporate functional departments
- Operational and leadership teams
Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory Leadership
- Develop, implement, and sustain a zero-injury culture throughout the site.
- Provide leadership to ensure compliance with all company safety policies as well as MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) regulations.
- Plan, allocate, and manage resources and budgets necessary to achieve site objectives.
- Monitor environmental performance and ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
- Maintain site housekeeping standards and environmental stewardship practices.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and facilitate inspections, audits, and reporting requirements.
- Promote a culture of accountability and continuous safety improvement.
Operational Leadership
- Direct all site operations to ensure production, maintenance, and quality objectives are achieved.
- Develop and execute site operational plans aligned with organizational goals and strategic initiatives.
- Ensure production schedules and customer requirements are met while maintaining product quality standards.
- Monitor and optimize key performance indicators, identifying opportunities for operational improvements.
- Ensure execution of daily production plans and address significant variances through corrective actions.
- Manage industrial plans, including prioritization, planning, budgeting, and implementation of capital projects.
- Oversee maintenance reliability programs to maximize equipment availability and operational efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Management of Change (MOC), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), non-conformance management, and other operational excellence methodologies.
Financial Management
- Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor costs and implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining safety, quality, and production standards.
- Manage overtime requirements to support business needs while controlling labor costs.
- Ensure efficient utilization of resources and achievement of financial objectives.
- Support the development and execution of business plans designed to improve productivity and profitability.
Employee And Labor Relations
- Lead, coach, and develop site leadership and supervisory personnel.
- Ensure employees receive appropriate training to perform their duties safely and effectively.
- Support workforce planning, succession planning, employee development, and performance management processes.
- Manage employee performance through goal setting, coaching, performance reviews, Personal Improvement Plans (PIPs), and Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
- Administer and ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment.
Stakeholder And Community Engagement
- Maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders and local organizations.
- Partner effectively with corporate, regional, and site leadership teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to achieve operational and business objectives.
Authority and Accountability
The Site Operations Manager is accountable for:
- Overall site management and operational performance.
- Performance, development, and engagement of site employees.
- Interpretation and implementation of company policies, procedures, and organizational goals.
- Approval authority for SAP requisitions, employee leave requests, expense reports, and authorized headcount adjustments.
- Allocation of resources necessary to achieve operational, safety, and business objectives.
Key Performance Indicators (Kpis)
Success in this role will be measured through:
- Safety performance and development of a safety-first culture.
- Compliance with environmental, governmental, legislative, and regulatory requirements.
- Achievement of operating and capital spending targets within approved budgets.
- Production performance, including lime and stone production targets.
- Equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
- Fuel efficiency, gas usage, overtime management, and cost control metrics.
- Achievement of customer service and quality objectives.
- Continuous improvement and operational excellence results.
- Employee engagement, development, retention, and succession planning outcomes.
- Consistent achievement of business goals and strategic objectives.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mining, Business, or a related field required.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in mining, heavy industrial operations, engineering, or a related industry.
- Minimum of five (5) years of management experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Experience leading large operational teams in a manufacturing, mining, or industrial environment preferred.
- Proven success driving operational excellence, continuous improvement, and organizational performance.
- Experience leading cultural transformation or performance improvement initiatives is highly desirable.
