The School of Social Work and Human Service (Faculty of Education and Social Work) at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for one sessional lecturer to teach EDCS 1640 (3,0,0) Foundations of Community and School Support (FALL 2026).
The course is delivered in-person at the Kamloops campus on Fridays from 8:30 to 11:20 between September 8th and December 23rd.
Course Description: Students will develop a critical awareness of disability and the learning and support needs of people with disabilities in school and community.
Students investigate person-centered, strength-based strategies and barriers to social inclusion and education.
Describe the evolution of the social and educational inclusion of people with disabilities. 2.
Explain the characteristics of cognitive, physical, and sensory impairments 3.
Identify barriers related to supporting individuals with disabilities in classroom and community environments. 4.
Practice inclusive strength-based, person-centered instructional supports that can be applied to educational or community settings. 5.
Assess environmental fit for individuals with disabilities in classrooms and other settings. 6.
Develop an anti-ableist philosophy of practice. 7.
Identify strategies for advocacy.
