Senior Software Engineer (Back-end/Server)

Position Summary

Work Arrangement

• This is a full-time, permanent position intended to work from the Vancouver office on a hybrid model with three days per week in the office.
• Remote arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and maintain secure, modular, horizontally scalable microservices.
• Own gRPC/Protobuf and REST/OpenAPI contracts with versioning and backward compatibility.
• Build Apache Kafka streaming pipelines for transaction lifecycle and verification events.
• Optimize distributed data stores, search systems, caching, consistency, idempotency, and retention requirements.
• Implement durable workflows across services and vendor boundaries.
• Drive sub-second latency through concurrency, backpressure, and autoscaling improvements.
• Lead architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate with ML, Infrastructure, and Product teams.
• Use AI-assisted engineering and AI/ML analysis to improve development and verification-pipeline performance.

What You Will Bring

• At least 8 years of back-end or server software engineering experience with production-grade distributed services or platforms.
• Deep Kotlin proficiency or strong Java experience transitioning to Kotlin, including JVM concurrency and Kotlin Coroutines.
• Experience with microservices, gRPC/Protobuf or REST, API design, versioning, and inter-service communication.
• Experience with event streaming, asynchronous messaging, consumer scaling, idempotent processing, and failure handling.
• Experience with distributed NoSQL databases, search and indexing systems, and caching at scale.
• Experience operating public-cloud services on Kubernetes, with containerization, service meshes, and infrastructure as code.
• Expertise in memory, concurrency, connection pooling, and payload optimization for high-throughput workloads.
• Daily use of AI coding assistants, critical evaluation of AI output, and practical understanding of AI/ML production behavior.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with identity verification, KYC systems, biometric liveness or anti-spoofing, and document-authenticity engines.
• Familiarity with Temporal, Cadence, or equivalent durable workflow engines.
• Experience integrating ML models or third-party vendor APIs into back-end services.
• Experience with OpenTelemetry, multi-region production services, CI/CD, Helm-based Kubernetes deployments, or secrets management.
