Position Summary
The Senior Scientist will work closely with the Center for Biopharmaceutical Education and Training (CBET) and College faculty and staff to provide expertise and continuous support to achieve CBET’s objectives. This position reports to the Director of CBET.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead upstream laboratory development activities in coordination with CBET team
- Participate effectively in teaching and training programs designed for industry professionals
- Work directly with industry partners to execute projects under confidentiality and in accordance with good laboratory practices (GLP)
- Generate project data and assist in analyzing laboratory results while maintaining data integrity standards
- Author and review technical documents, technical reports, Batch records, and SOPs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expertise in cell culture (e.g., CHO, mammalian) and fermentation (E. coli, yeast)
- Proven expertise bioreactor processes scale-up and scale-down (single-use and stainless steel)
- Strong knowledge of aseptic techniques and GMP compliance
- Skills in process parameter control (pH, DO, temperature, agitation)
- Data analysis, experimental design, and troubleshooting abilities
- Experience in bioanalytics and downstream processing is a plus.
- Experience in downstream purification, chromatography, and TFF are desirable.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with a respect for confidential material
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Work independently and with other members of the team to execute required tasks
- Excellent time management and task prioritization skills
- Comfort managing multiple projects at the same time – i.e. , multitasking
- Ability to interact collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals both from academia and industry
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines on accelerated timelines in a fast-paced work environment
Education and Experience
Ph.D. in life sciences, biochemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related discipline
Minimum of 2 years of experience in an academic or industry environment
Experience in downstream processing related to the biopharmaceutical industry, preferred
Experience in a GMP/GLP environment, preferred
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Additional Information
This position is based in Albany, NY. The duties and responsibilities of this particular role require the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or interaction with our community, requiring all work to be performed full-time on-site. Standard work hours are from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM EST, Monday through Friday. Additional details pertaining to this position will be discussed during the interview process.
