Senior Project Cost Accountant

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain project cost ledgers covering labour, materials, subcontractors, plant, and overhead allocations.
• Prepare monthly cost reports, cost-to-complete analyses, forecasts, variance explanations, and margin reconciliations.
• Support progress claims, interim valuations, final account reconciliation, and contract documentation.
• Monitor subcontractor invoices and retention and validate payment applications against contracts and BOQs.
• Reconcile WIP, revenue recognition, deferred revenue, and retention balances monthly.
• Analyse cost drivers and prepare variance reports with root causes and corrective actions.
• Prepare project accruals, provisions, and month-end journal entries for audit purposes.
• Review BOQs, change orders, claims, and variations and assess their commercial accounting treatment.
• Support budgeting and tender costing with historical costs, rate analysis, and risk estimates.
• Maintain controls over project expenses, purchasing, and payroll allocations.
• Support internal, external, statutory, and management audits.
• Maintain reporting tools and coach junior cost accounting staff where applicable.

Technical Requirements

• ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or an equivalent accounting qualification is required.
• At least 10 years of project cost accounting experience is required.
• Experience in construction, fit-out, fire protection, or building services projects is required.
• Knowledge of contracts, BOQs, variation orders, claims, retention, and revenue recognition is required.
• Experience with project cost control systems, ERP financial modules, and advanced Excel is required.
• Oracle experience is desirable.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and stakeholder-liaison skills are required.
• Regional billing, tax, and statutory requirements knowledge is advantageous.
