Major Functions

Provide technical leadership and operational oversight for drilling fluids, solids control, and waste management supporting exploration, appraisal, and development wells.

Own the fluids Basis of Design and Drilling Fluids Program, manage fluids contractors, improve cost and performance, and ensure HSE compliance across the well lifecycle.

HSE Accountability

  • Support and promote applicable Company HSE policies, standards, and initiatives.
  • Review contractor HSE systems, controls, and compliance through office reviews and rig-site visits.
  • Lead or participate in rig-side risk assessments for fluids, solids control, and waste management activities.
  • Ensure fluids and waste management operations comply with Company environmental requirements and applicable regulations.

Fluids Program Design and Well Planning

  • Prepare and own fluids sections of Basis of Design documents, detailed Drilling Fluids Programs, and Recommended Practices.
  • Design fluid systems for H₂S management, fractured carbonates, shale and inhibitive systems, underbalanced or managed-pressure applications, scavengers, bridging, and LCM.
  • Collaborate with Drilling, Completions, and Well Testing engineers and participate in DWOP and CWOP sessions.
  • Develop contingency plans and Management of Change documents when operational changes are required.

Contractor and Operations Management

  • Compile tenders, evaluate contractors, and prepare technical specifications for fluids, solids control, and waste management services.
  • Direct, coach, and support Company and contractor rig-site fluids engineers while monitoring critical fluid parameters and drilling reports.
  • Lead contractor technical audits, interview proposed personnel, review competency ratings, and moderate quarterly performance reviews.
  • Complete fluids reporting, lessons learned, cost tracking, contractor invoice cross-checks, mobilization updates, and wellsite verification.

Cost and Continuous Improvement

  • Drive cost and performance improvement in fluids, solids control, and waste management.
  • Support cost estimates, Bills of Quantities, and commercial evaluations for fluids and drilling waste management scopes.
  • Implement material optimization, inventory management, and waste-reduction opportunities.
  • Conduct technical research and support digital tools, templates, job models, databases, dashboards, and knowledge retention.

Professional Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Geology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum 12 to 15 years of progressive fluids-related experience, including at least 5 years at a senior, coordinating, or managerial level.
  • Service-company technical or laboratory department experience is preferred.
  • Experience in sour-gas or high-H₂S carbonate environments, especially in the Middle East or Kurdistan Region of Iraq, is highly advantageous.
