Senior Engineering Manager - Site specific Design

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic engineering leadership for site-specific SMR power station designs.
• Build and lead multidisciplinary teams across internal engineering, suppliers, and delivery partners.
• Direct engineering activities across systems, structures, and components throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage delivery against milestones, budgets, performance objectives, risks, opportunities, and resource needs.
• Integrate site-specific requirements with the generic Rolls-Royce SMR design using configuration control and requirements management.
• Lead physical adaptations and variant requirements across sites, regions, and customer applications.
• Collaborate with project management, supply chain, operations, construction, and business development.
• Represent engineering with customers, regulators, partners, and other stakeholders.
• Support site development, licensing, environmental approvals, and programme activities.
• Monitor safety, constructability, schedule, cost, and performance objectives with the Chief Integration Engineer.

Requirements

• Chartered Engineer qualification or equivalent, with a relevant engineering degree or demonstrable equivalent industry experience.
• Experience leading large, complex multidisciplinary engineering programmes in nuclear, power generation, infrastructure, or similarly regulated sectors.
• Experience managing significant engineering budgets, developing high-performing teams, and delivering through matrix organisations.
• Expertise in power station, major infrastructure, or complex industrial facility design integration.
• Experience with regulated environments, regulatory engagement, safety cases, environmental approvals, or infrastructure planning.
• Track record of engineering performance improvement through governance, risk management, and delivery leadership.
• Applicants must obtain BPSS clearance and complete DBS and basic financial probity checks.

Location and Working Arrangement

• Hybrid working is available with Derby, Warrington, or Manchester as the primary location.
• Regular travel to Rolls-Royce SMR offices, customer locations, and project sites is expected.

Compensation and Benefits

• The posting states a salary of £80,000 to £105,000 DOE plus a performance-related 20% short-term incentive and a long-term incentive plan.
• A separate pay range in the posting states £85,600 to £112,350.
• Benefits include an £8,500 annual allowance, pension contributions, holidays, private medical insurance, life assurance, and a £250 home-office payment.

Selection and Screening

• The selection process is expected to include a Talent Acquisition discussion followed by technical and leadership interviews.
• Nuclear industry screening includes BPSS clearance, a DBS check, and a basic financial probity check.
