The Senior Engineering Manager will lead teams building core marketplace systems for seller operations, inventory, pricing, integrations and business management.
The role defines technical vision, delivers scalable and secure systems and collaborates with product and business teams to empower sellers and support marketplace growth.
Marketplace Systems Development
- Build feature-rich seller portals for listings, inventory and operations.
- Develop inventory and pricing systems with real-time updates, demand forecasting and competitive pricing algorithms.
- Create centralized operational and financial solutions for reporting, invoicing and compliance.
- Build scalable APIs and integration frameworks for ERP, logistics providers, payment gateways and third-party platforms.
- Develop user experiences for multi-seller listings, buy-box algorithms and personalisation.
Technical Leadership
- Define the technical roadmap for marketplace systems and align it with business priorities and scalability requirements.
- Drive platform scalability, reliability, security and performance.
- Collaborate with data science and analytics teams to integrate machine learning models for recommendations, demand forecasting and fraud detection.
- Promote a DevOps mindset, automate deployments and improve CI/CD pipelines.
- Ensure engineering best practices in code quality, design patterns and system architecture.
Team Management
- Lead and mentor engineering managers, principal engineers and individual contributors.
- Build a culture of innovation, collaboration and accountability.
- Set engineering team OKRs and remain accountable for overall squad velocity across development, testing and site reliability.
- Partner with HR to attract, retain and develop engineering talent.
Projects and Collaboration
- Oversee planning, execution and delivery of complex software projects on time, within scope and to quality standards.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on engineering strategy, technical goals and project priorities.
- Align technology investments with company growth strategies in partnership with operations, finance and other business units.
- Provide executive stakeholders with updates on milestones, risks and roadmaps.
- Improve team efficiency, product quality and time-to-market through better processes.
- Advocate Agile software development practices.
- Manage engineering budgets, headcount and infrastructure costs.
Technical Qualifications
- At least 14 years of software engineering experience, including at least four years managing large, cross-functional teams.
- Experience building and scaling marketplace platforms or B2B systems.
- Deep understanding of modern web and mobile development, cloud platforms and microservices architecture.
- Hands-on experience with integration frameworks, ERP, WMS and third-party logistics systems.
- Familiarity with data platforms, machine learning and analytics tools.
Leadership Qualifications
- Success building and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong leadership skills to inspire, motivate and develop engineering talent.
- Ability to balance long-term strategic goals with short-term delivery milestones.
- Exceptional communication skills for technical presentations to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with globally distributed teams and vendors or external partners.
- Familiarity with Scaled Agile development practices and tools.
